Building A Legacy…

The Mastro Montessori Academy was established in 1968 by Mary Mastro Guarriello.  Her mission was to create a school dedicated to Maria Montessori’s fundamental philosophy “Free the child’s potential and you will transform the world.”

In 1989 Mrs. Guarriello entrusted the school to her primary directress, Elizabeth Bradbury.
In order to ensure the school’s future, Mastro Montessori attained non-profit status. A Board of Trustees was established to guarantee the continuation of the school beyond one person and endow it to the community it serves.

For over forty years, Mastro Montessori has served the children of Monmouth County in its original location.  It is the only school in Monmouth County accredited by the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI); the premier authority on Montessori education and teacher training.

Our Vision…

In 2009 the board of trustees took a step towards our future with the purchase of a property at #35 and #45 White Road in Shrewsbury with full borough approval for a school.

Mastro Montessori staff and board members worked closely with a local architecture firm to design a state-of-the-art Montessori school using “green” technologies and materials wherever possible.

Our new facility will reflect the extraordinary programs and curriculum we offer!

Why Give?

Our Alumni say it best…

“I have always appreciated each educational opportunity my parents gave me, starting with my time at your school. Although now my memories are vague, I am certain the style of individual  exploration and self learning which started at Mastro Montessori had a lot to do with my love of learning and my preparedness for the many challenges I’ve had along the way. Thank you!”

John Battista, class of 1975

“I loved Mastro Montessori. I am currently a second grade teacher and it amazes me still to see how much more I learned at Montessori compared to what my students are learning in public school. I intend to someday send my children to Montessori & hope that they will enjoy the experience that I had while attending.”

Jill DePierro, class of 1984

“I remember more from my 2 + years at Mastro Montessori than I do about Kindergarten-8th grade. Every moment was exciting and satisfying.”

Betsy Jay-Swenerton, class of 1979
