our Programs
Toddler community
Our Toddler program offers young children a chance to explore their natural curiosity in a small group setting. Designed for children ages 18 months to 3 years, the program provides a “prepared environment” tailored to their physical needs, promoting motor and language development, and practical life skills.
The classroom is set up for success with child-sized furniture, materials at eye level, and a calm, organized space. This encourages independence and supports toddlers’ natural desire to do things on their own. Montessori materials enhance sensory awareness, helping children appreciate what they see, hear, touch, taste, and smell. Activities include learning to button and snap clothes, hand washing, snack preparation, scrubbing tables, and caring for plants, which teaches them to care for themselves and their surroundings.
Toilet learning is an important part of our program. Teachers gently guide each child based on their readiness, preparing the environment to support independent toilet use. We ask parents to maintain the same routine at home to ensure consistency.
We understand that children may experience separation anxiety. Our staff works diligently to comfort each child and build a sense of security and confidence. To ease the transition, we offer a “phase-in” schedule at the beginning of the school year, tailored to each child’s needs.
Our Toddler program prepares children for the Primary level by helping them understand Montessori expectations and develop concentration, coordination, language skills, and the ability to work in a community.
We invite you to join our nurturing and supportive community, where your child can grow and thrive.
TODDLER COMMUNITY (18 months – 3 years)
Monday through Friday
Toddler Half-Day Program 8:30am – 11:30am
This program allows toddler-age children to experience an authentic Montessori environment that nurtures their individual needs while fostering their natural curiosity and need for exploration. Early language skills are developed and independence in the bathroom is encouraged.
Toddler Full Day Program 8:30am – 3:30pm
This program is for the toddler child who needs an environment that will provide not only the morning session and lunch, but an afternoon session as well. The children will have a period of rest that immediately follows lunch. When the rest period is over, the children continue to explore in their warm, nurturing environment.
PRIMARY (3-6 years)
The Montessori Primary program serves preschool and kindergarten-aged children in a mixed-age, child-centered community. This “prepared environment” encourages independent learning and exploration while fostering responsibility and a sense of community as children work together harmoniously.
The classroom is divided into four key areas: practical life, sensorial, mathematics, and language.
Practical Life: Children learn self-care, environmental care, coordination, and social skills through hands-on activities.
Sensorial: Children explore the world by developing their senses, learning to recognize different sizes, shapes, colors, sounds, and textures, which also lays the groundwork for language and math.
Language: Children progress from spoken to written words, learning to read and write.
Mathematics: Children move from concrete to abstract thinking, building a strong foundation in math.
After turning five, children attend full day. This extended day is crucial for their development, allowing more time for spontaneous activities in reading, writing, and mathematics. The Kindergarten year is especially important as children begin to emerge as young leaders, early readers, and budding mathematicians.
Our Primary program nurtures each child’s growth, preparing them for the next stage of their educational journey in a supportive and stimulating environment.
PRIMARY PROGRAM (3 – 6 years)
Monday through Friday
Primary Half-Day Program 8:30am – 12:00pm
This program allows Primary age children to experience an authentic Montessori environment that is specifically prepared to meet their needs in different areas of development: socially, emotionally, physically and intellectually. The children enjoy a three hour uninterrupted cycle of activity in a classroom that encourages independence and a life-long love of learning.
Primary Full Day Program 8:30am – 3:30pm
This program is for the Primary child who needs an environment that will provide not only a morning session and lunch, but an afternoon session as well. The children in this program, who are not yet five years old, have a rest period immediately after lunch. Any child who is in their kindergarten year is required to stay for the full day program.
ELEMENTARY (6-9 years)
The Montessori Elementary program builds on the strong foundation laid in the Primary classroom. As children grow, their needs evolve, and so does their learning environment. Our Elementary program is tailored to the unique characteristics of children at this stage, supporting the development of strong reasoning and social-emotional skills while fostering a sense of responsibility.
In our mixed-age classrooms, children ages 6 to 9 learn together, offering opportunities to be both learners and mentors. With Montessori materials and a variety of other resources, students meet curriculum standards while pursuing their individual interests.
Abstract Thinking and Reasoning Skills
Our program ensures that children master essential age-appropriate curriculum components while giving them the freedom to delve deeply into topics they are passionate about. This approach promotes the thrill of discovery and develops critical thinking skills.
Social Skills and Community Engagement
Elementary students work together, building a strong sense of responsibility toward themselves, their peers, and the larger society. Lessons in reading, writing, math, geography, history, science, and grammar are often conducted in small groups. Our unique enrichment offerings also help nurture important practical life skills. Art, music, and foreign language are integrated into their uninterrupted work cycle along with regular opportunities for gardening, cooking, and mindfulness.
Fairness and Responsibility
Children develop social-emotional skills and a sense of responsibility through classroom jobs, weekly meetings, and conflict resolution practice. Students learn time management and organization skills to support independence and academic achievement. They also extend their learning beyond the classroom by engaging with their community. Students plan their own “Going Outs” to conduct research or serve the community. Some of these student-planned trips have included visits to libraries, museums, parks, and local businesses.
Our Elementary program offers an environment that emphasizes the development of independent, practical life skills alongside academic achievement. It’s an ideal setting for parents seeking a holistic education that nurtures their child’s academic, social, and emotional development. Schedule a tour to see how our unique approach can help your child thrive.
Elementary Program (6 months – 9 years)
Monday through Friday
Elementary Program 8:30am – 3:30pm
This program is for children in first through third grade who wish to continue the experience of an authentic Montessori education that provides a foundation in a variety of subjects including reading, writing, geometry, mathematics, history, geography, science, foreign language, art, and music. The Elementary Program was designed for children who have completed the Primary Montessori program. We consider students without a Montessori background for our Elementary program on a case by case basis.
Extended Day Program
Our Extended Day Program (EDP) is a natural extension of the Montessori day, offering children a calm and engaging environment beyond regular dismissal. Consistent with Montessori principles, children are free to choose meaningful activities, spend time outdoors, explore STEAM-based experiences, and connect with peers across age groups.
The program is available daily until 5:00pm and is designed to support both children’s independence and families’ scheduling needs.
SUMMER program
The Mastro Montessori summer program for Toddler and Primary children is only available for our current students and is offered Monday through Friday. Throughout the week there is a balance of structured activities, arts and crafts, gardening, and outside play. Space is limited to currently enrolled students.
This is a great way for our students to continue their exploration, growth and learning over the summer. The summer program usually runs for about five weeks, beginning after the 4th of July.
Enrichment programs
Foreign Language
Our Foreign Language program immerses children in Spanish from the toddler through elementary years. Using Montessori methods, our staff weave interactive, hands-on lessons into the daily routine, making language learning a natural part of their experience.
Music
Our Music program nurtures creativity and self-expression through music. Toddlers and Primary students explore music using Montessori methods, while Elementary students dive deeper with instrument practice, singing, and music history. Kindergarten and Elementary students receive weekly piano and voice lessons, participate in group performances, and can practice the piano during their work cycles.
Gardening
Our Gardening program connects children with nature and teaches sustainable living. Students of all ages engage in seed germination, planting, weeding, composting, and caring for the garden. With hydroponic and aeroponic systems, they enjoy year-round growing. The program also includes beekeeping, where children learn about honeybees, inspect hives, and harvest honey. Additionally, they raise Monarch butterflies, releasing them after they metamorphose, fostering respect for the environment and practical knowledge of ecology.
